LGBTQ people and communities are inherently placemakers. Despite being some of the most vulnerable in society, LGTBQ communities are some of the most resilient and ingenious.  Their engagements in art, activism, social and civic service find unique expressions of visibility and celebration. Community organizations, art institutions, and other actors leverage many of the strategies deployed by cultural districts in their efforts to enlarge accessibility, a sense of safety and belonging for LGBTQ people. In San Francisco, there are three distinct LGBTQ Cultural Districts recognized by the State of California.  Elsewhere, and especially in Europe, LGBTQ neighborhoods remain an important institution in the physical and social landscape of cities. This session will bring together LGBTQ-focused practitioners from across Europe to share how they are engaging with their communities.
